The Week 2 matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams should feature much better performances from running backs on both teams. We’ve got the fantasy projections courtesy of numberFire.

Seattle Seahawks

Russell Wilson is battling an injured ankle but did just enough to get the Seahawks past the Miami Dolphins in the team’s home opener last week. He has been practicing in full this week and should be able to improve on the 258 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception he had to start the year. The main question mark for Wilson right now will be his ability to scramble outside of the pocket. The good news for him is that the Rams were hardly able to stop Blaine Gabbert last week. Gabbert looked a lot like Wilson or a vintage Michael Vick, even though scrambling isn’t really his game. Fortunately for Wilson’s fantasy owners, it totally is Russell’s game. Hopefully his ankle holds up and he can produce some bigger and better stats against Los Angeles.

Running back Thomas Rawls should also put up better numbers this week. He played last week against the Dolphins but was limited because of his own injury troubles. While some experts predicted that teammate Christine Michael would take over because he looked really good in the preseason, the Seahawks coaching staff swears that Rawls is still the guy. Don’t be surprised if he sees 20+ touches against the Rams. San Francisco’s Carlos Hyde did well against them last week and as long as Rawls is at full strength, he should be able to get close to 100 rushing yards and a touchdown for his fantasy owners.

Los Angeles Rams

In all likelihood, rookie Jared Goff won’t start for the Rams for at least another month or two, but if teammate Case Keenum keeps posting zeros on the board, coach Jeff Fisher won’t have a choice. Part of the reason for the Week 1 shutout last at the hands of the 49ers was that running back Todd Gurley couldn’t get anything going. He’s the one player on Los Angeles’ roster worth starting every week, but against the 49ers he managed a minuscule 47 yards on 17 carries. There was no room for him to break loose. Both Gurley and the team’s quarterback need to be better moving forward without question. Facing off against Seattle isn’t exactly what the doctor ordered for getting a struggling offense going, but Gurley still has to be in fantasy lineups regardless of the format.

If there absolutely must be a Rams wide receiver in your fantasy lineups, perhaps taking a look at Kenny Britt is a good call. Tavon Austin is certainly the more talented receiver on the team. but with the quarterback struggling, receptions may be at a minimum, which means starting a receiver that gets further down the field like Britt might have you end up with more fantasy points than a slot receiver like Austin. Either way, both players are going to be in tough against Seattle, but somebody has got to catch passes and this week the edge arguably goes to Britt.
