The Philadelphia Eagles are flying high at 4-1, thanks to a surging offense led by second-year quarterback Carson Wentz. However, while Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor are consistent fantasy producers, Torrey Smith has been more hit and miss.
Fantasy football 2017: Torrey Smith, start or sit on ‘TNF?’
The Eagles’ offense is soaring right now, but Smith hasn’t quite benefited. We break down the fantasy implications.

Over the first five games, Smith has just 13 catches for 204 yards and a touchdown, an underwhelming catch rate on his 23 targets. The good news is that he’s good for one or two big plays per game, roasting the Arizona Cardinals for a 59-yard touchdown last week.
Fantasy impact: Smith’s talent hasn’t abandoned him, despite a nondescript two years with the San Francisco 49ers. The problem is that his real-life role (a clear-out deep threat that helps the receivers underneath) doesn’t always translate to fantasy value, and he doesn’t see enough looks to be a reliable starter week to week.
The Eagles play the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night, and Carolina’s defense is giving up only giving up the 19th-most fantasy points to wide receivers. Look for Smith to play his usual role, which is that of a high-risk WR5. He’s not startable outside of deeper leagues and bargain-basement DFS plays.
Recommendation: Sit
