Out of all the strange things that have happened in the NFL this season, Case Keenum starting the majority of games for the Minnesota Vikings might be near the top. Originally expected to be a backup to Sam Bradford, Keenum’s been the starter ever since Week 2, when Bradford went down with a knee injury.

Keenum isn’t being asked to do much other than mind the shop. We break down the fantasy implications.

The Vikings, perhaps well-aware of Keenum’s limitations, have built their offense around the running game and haven’t asked the quarterback to do much, other than avoid turnovers. Through six games, Keenum has only five touchdowns to two interceptions while throwing for 1,322 yards.
Fantasy impact: While Keenum hasn’t been bad this season, he’s not exactly moving the needle in fantasy football. He has only one 300-yard game and hasn’t reached the 250-yard mark in any of his other starts. He’s been useful in two-quarterback leagues, but that’s about the extent of his ceiling, especially with Stefon Diggs sitting out with a groin injury.
With six teams on bye this week and another top-tier starter going down with injury (Carson Palmer), Keenum will be on the streaming radar when the Vikings play the Cleveland Browns in London. The 0-7 Browns are giving up the eight-most fantasy points to quarterbacks, so if you’re dumpster-diving for a quick fix at quarterback, Keenum at least has the right matchup.
Recommendation: Start if you’re desperate
