Entering his third season in the NFL, Jameis Winston was expected to take a big step forward as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ franchise quarterback. He continues to have some inconsistent stretches, but Winston has mostly been on point in leading the Bucs to a 2-1 record in the early going.
Fantasy football start/sit Week 5: What to do with Jameis Winston
Winston’s been having an up-and-down year so far, but still putting up plenty of fantasy points. We break down the fantasy implications.

Winston had a tough test against the New York Giants defense and didn’t quite play at his best, but he still did enough to lead the Bucs to a win. He completed 22 of 38 passes for 332 yards three touchdowns, and no interceptions in the victory.
Fantasy impact: Through three games, Winston has six touchdowns to three interceptions while averaging 288 yards per game. Those are borderline QB1 numbers in most fantasy formats, and it’s encouraging to see him keep the turnovers down after tossing 33 interceptions in his first two seasons. There’s room for improvement, but for the most part Winston is right on track.
The Bucs face the New England Patriots on Thursday night and Winston is in a great spot here, going up against a bad Patriots defense that’s giving up the most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. With bye weeks and injuries affecting the quarterback ranks, Winston is an easy QB1 play in Week 5.
Recommendation: Start
