Week 5 of the fantasy football season is here, and we’re back with another crop of start/sit options. We have a nice set of data about each team through four weeks, and can make informed decisions on good plays and traps. With that in mind, we’ll pick quarterbacks who should exceed expectations in Week 5, along with three you should probably sit.
Fantasy football start/sit, Week 5: Wide receivers
We break down the top starting options at wide receiver this week, along with some players who should be avoided.

Start
We know about the extreme home/road splits for quarterbacks such as Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger. Hilton is among the standard bearers for wide receivers. In two home games, Hilton has over 200 yards receiving and a touchdown, compared to under 100 yards and no scores in two road games. Not only is Hilton at home this week, he faces a 49ers pass defense ranked near the bottom of the league. And for a final piece to the puzzle, tight end Jack Doyle is already ruled out, increasing Hilton’s chances to load up on targets.
Jay Cutler was in consideration for the QB start/sit column this week, as the Titans have been among the worst defenses against wide receivers in the league, allowing the second-most yards and a whopping eight touchdowns. Both Parker and Landry have been soaking up targets as the only two reliable options in the passing game. This is Miami’s first home game after Week 1’s contest was wiped out by Hurricane Irma, and the Dolphins should be skyhigh for this one.
Brown has 29 targets in three games this season, including games of 11 and 12. He is the top deep option right now with John Brown working his way back into the mix. Even with John Brown playing last week, Carson Palmer looked Jaron’s way 12 times, resulting in his best game with eight catches for 105 yards. The Eagles secondary has struggled all season, so all Cardinals receivers are in play.
Sit
Alshon Jeffery, Eagles vs. Cardinals
For the fifth time in five games, goes up against a lock-down corner. He’s already seen Josh Norman, Marcus Peters, Janoris Jenkins and Casey Heyward. Now he gets to dance with Patrick Peterson. Someday, Jeffery will get a tasty matchup. But as we’ve said all season, not this week.
Tyrell Williams, San Diego Chargers at New York Giants
Speaking on Jenkins, he is expected to shadow Williams this week. Williams had a breakout game last week against the Eagles, but wide receivers are supposed to have big games against that leaky secondary. If you added Williams off the waiver wire this week, don’t get excited to deploy him. It’s going to be a long, quiet day.
We’ve listed a lot of top corners in this section, and Darius Slay would like to say hello, as well. Like with Williams, Benjamin goes from a dreadful Patriots defense to a receiver-stuffing unit in Detroit. Benjamin is still looking for his first touchdown of 2017, and you can pretty much guarantee he won’t find it in Detroit this weekend.
