Week 5 of the fantasy football season is here, and we’re back with another crop of start/sit options. We have a nice set of data about each team through four weeks and can make informed decisions on good plays and traps. With that in mind, we’ll pick quarterbacks who should exceed expectations in Week 5, along with three you should probably sit.
Fantasy football start/sit, Week 5: Tight ends
We break down the top starting options at tight end this week, along with some players who should be avoided.

Start
Targeting tight ends against the Browns was fantasy gold in 2016 and not much has changed this season, as two tight ends have had two-touchdown games against Cleveland through four weeks. In all, the Browns are the worst or close to it in every key category against the position through four weeks. ASJ has been solid in two weeks since returning from suspension and is poised for his first massive performance of the season.
The only reason Clay wasn’t the No. 1 receiving option in the Bills offense was the presence of Jordan Matthews. Well, so much for that. Tyrod Taylor can hardly be more locked in on his tight end, but Clay’s targets should see a bump, especially in a matchup against a stout defense that will force Taylor to check down. The only negative is the Bengals’ ability to keep tight ends out of the end zone, but the receptions in a PPR league should be enough to overcome that.
The Giants made it clear when they drafted Engram that they were committed to getting the tight end position more involved in the offense and they have been true to their word. Engram is emerging as Jimmy Graham 2.0 (New Orleans version), and though the Chargers have been solid against the position, there’s no doubt Eli Manning will be looking to No. 88 early and often. He’s a terrific every-week play in PPR leagues.
Sit
Tight ends are averaging two catches for 22 yards and no touchdowns per game against the Packers this season. Witten does not have a strong career resume against Green Bay and has cooled off considerably as the season has worn on. It’s not adding up for a good performance here.
Like Witten, the only time Ebron really excelled the season was against the Giants (which makes Hunter Henry a decent play, by the way). The Panthers have yet to allow a tight end touchdown this season.
This is dependent on Marcus Mariota being ruled out. Historically, Walker’s production has dropped off dramatically in games he’s played with someone other than Mariota throwing to him. If Matt Cassell gets the start, get Walker out of your lineups.
