The Houston Texans need big games from running back Lamar Miller going forward if they have any chance of winning without star rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson. He will work in tandem with rookie running back D’Onta Foreman Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams have a fairly soft rushing defense that is ranked 23rd against the run. However, the Texans do not have much of a passing game to support the running efforts in Week 10.

The pressure is on the Texans starting running back to produce now that the passing game has flatlined. We look at implications.

Losing Watson has had a devastating effect on the Texans offense. The passing game problems bled over into the running game Sunday. Miller rushed 10 times for 57 yards and caught three passes for 34 yards in the loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts defense was able to close up running lanes easily knowing that Texans backup Tom Savage would not pose a passing threat. Miller actually had one fewer carry than backup RB Foreman but outrushed his teammate by 20 yards.
Fantasy impact: It is hard to trust any of Houston’s skill players without Watson under center. Miller was a disappointment again Sunday with only 10 carries in what should have been a run-heavy game for Houston with Savage running the offense. The Texans have to run the ball. If Miller does not get going right away, they seem fine with switching to Foreman. That is not a ringing endorsement for Miller, but he is still the best producer in the Texans backfield. Miller sees enough action between carries and catches to stay a low-end RB in fantasy; just have reasonable expectations.
