Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 11: Wide receivers

We break down the top starting options at wide receiver this week, along with some players who should be avoided.

Week 11 of the fantasy football season is here, and we’re back with another crop of start/sit options. We have a nice set of data about each team through six weeks, and can make informed decisions on good plays and traps. With that in mind, we’ll pick wide receivers who should exceed expectations in Week 11, along with three you should probably sit.

Start

Tyreek Hill, Kansas City Chiefs at New York Giants

The weather forecast is calling for heavy wind on Sunday and I think that actually helps Hill. True, the traditional deep shot won’t be there. But with two weeks to prepare for this game, I’m guessing we’re going to see some designed runs and screens and shovel passes to get Hill the ball in space and allow him to run right through a defense that has largely stopped trying. Hill is as dynamic a playmaker in the game and he gets a great chance to show it here.

Marquis Lee, Jacksonville Jaguars at Cleveland Browns

More heavy wind in the forecast in Cleveland, and Leonard Fournette might not play. That means Blake Bortles is going to have to win this one with his arm and the deep ball isn’t available to him. Enter Lee, who does most of his damage out of the slot, a position the Browns’ defense has struggled to defend all season. With Allen Hurns also out, Lee could command 12-15 targets in this one.

Jamison Crowder, Washington at New Orleans Saints

Crowder has 24 targets and 199 yards receiving over his past two games. Now he gets to play in the Superdome, which is a Field of Dreams for fantasy production. With Jordan Reed ruled out, Crowder’s target share should stay sky-high.

Sit

DeAndre Hopkins, Houston Texans vs. Arizona Cardinals

I can’t imagine a worse set-up for a great receiver. He still has the incapable Tom Savage trying to throw the ball to him. He’s now all by himself out there with Will Fuller out with a rib injury. And staring across from him this week is Patrick Peterson, who is as good a shutdown corner there is in the league. Hopkins might not catch a pass this Sunday. Bite the bullet and sit him. It’s not his fault.

Marvin Jones, Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears

Jones had a good thing going there for a couple of weeks, but now Kenny Golladay is back in the mix and this week the Lions face a solid pass defense on the road in windy weather. Jones can’t be trusted to get the targets, or be able do anything with the ones he does get.

Sammy Watkins, Los Angeles Rams at Minnesota Vikings

Robert Woods is the man in this passing game now, and even though Watkins has touchdowns in consecutive games, he’s going to have to deal with Xavier Rhodes this week (Janoris Jenkins didn’t face the Rams two weeks ago), and that probably puts him back on ice.
