The Arizona Cardinals suffered a huge blow in Week 1, losing running back David Johnson to a wrist injury. He will undergo surgery this week, and is expected to miss two-to-three months, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Cardinals will place Johnson on IR with hopes of using the return designation later this year.
Fantasy implications of David Johnson wrist surgery costing him 2-3 months
Kerwynn Williams will be among the most sought after running backs on fantasy football waiver wires in Week 2.

Fantasy impact: This is a huge blow for the team in each league that spent a high first-round pick on Johnson. He was a strong running back overall, but particularly so in PPR leagues. He is worth hanging onto in your IR spot, but if Arizona’s season goes south in the coming weeks, it is possible the Cardinals shelve him at some point.
Kerwynn Williams and Andre Ellington replaced Johnson for the rest of the game. Williams rushed five times for 10 yards, and had one reception for two yards. Ellington had no carries, but was targeted three times in the passing game, finishing with two receptions for 35 yards. Although Ellington had more snaps than Williams (20 to nine), expect Williams to get the bulk of the rushing attempts while Johnson is out. Williams will hold standard value, while Ellington gains some value in PPR leagues.
