Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 2 Quarterbacks

We break down the top starting options at quarterback this week, along with some players who should be avoided.

Week 2 of the fantasy football season is here, and we’re back with another crop of start/sit options. We’re starting to collect a small sample size of data about each team, and can start making somewhat more-informed decisions on good plays and traps. With that in mind, we’ll pick quarterbacks who should exceed expectations in Week 2, along with three you should probably sit.

Start

Tom Brady, New England Patriots (@ New Orleans Saints)

This should be obvious, but you never know who’s out there somehow thinking that last week’s letdown against the Chiefs is a reason to back off. Let’s be real clear: He’s not just the GOAT. He’s the angry GOAT. You gonna mess with an angry goat? No. You play the angry GOAT, especially against the Saints, and especially because angry GOATs have long memories and 2009 happened. I would set the over/under on 350 yards and four touchdown passes.

Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (vs. Chicago Bears)

If you drafted Winston, you had to wait an extra week to use him, and unless your other quarterback is named Brady, Rodgers or Ryan, there’s no reason not to get him back in your lineup. Winston is loaded at receiver this year with the addition of DeSean Jackson, and even with the serviceable Jacquizz Rodgers running the ball, this game should be about Winston hitting his talented targets downfield.

Alex Smith, Kansas City Chiefs (vs. Philadelphia Eagles)

We had a very un-Smith-like performance against the Patriots in Week 1, or was it? There seems to be a new emphasis on Smith being more aggressive as a passer, and it showed in Foxboro. Yes, he has the dynamic Kareem Hunt in his backfield, but Hunt’s biggest play was a receiving touchdown, of which he had two. There’s nothing about the Eagles secondary that should keep Smith from essentially repeating his Week 1 performance, especially at home in a competitive game.

Sit

Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys (@Denver Broncos)

They’re not expecting much offense in this game – at has the second-lowest O/U on the board – and asking an opposing quarterback to come into Denver and put up big numbers is never a good idea. Philip Rivers did manage three touchdowns on Monday night, but didn’t crack 200 yards. I’m figuring this to be a Zeke Elliott game, with Prescott managing the field, but not lighting it up.

Sam Bradford, Minnesota Vikings (@Pittsburgh Steelers)

Check his injury status on Sunday, as Bradford has been limited in practice all week with a knee injury. He looked sensational on Monday night, but that was at home against a terrible defense. It will be a whole different ballgame in Pittsburgh, and the injury just makes Bradford even more shaky.

DeShone Kizer, Cleveland Browns (@Baltimore Ravens)

The rookie for Notre Dame looked pretty composed and confident against the Steelers in his regular season debut, which should surprise no one who has followed Kizer’s career. But going into Baltimore against a defense that shut out the Bengals last week is asking an awful lot of a young player. There will be highs and lows for the rookie, and Sunday feels like his first low.
