The Arizona Cardinals have set up their running back depth chart now that David Johnson is going to be out for at least a couple months. The team is going to start Kerwynn Williams, with Chris Johnson serving as the primary backup, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Andre Ellington will get work on third downs.
Kerwynn Williams to start at RB for Cardinals, highest fantasy upside on Cardinals
We break down the fantasy implications of the Cardinals backfield.

Williams, a 2013 seventh-round pick, first joined the Cardinals in 2014 as a member of their practice squad. He has bounced between the practice squad and the 53-man roster since then. The team added Chris Johnson this week after Johnson went down.
Fantasy impact: Williams joined Tarik Cohen as the biggest fantasy football waiver wire add this week. It is not entirely clear how much work Johnson will get, but it appears Williams will get first crack at taking those early downs. Last week, Ellington finished with the most snaps aside from Johnson, but it was primarily in passing downs. Williams got the carries, while Ellington got the passing targets.
All of this means Williams is the best standard option, while Ellington significantly lowers Williams’ value in PPR leagues. Johnson holds no value right now. Williams is not a must-start this week, but he could be a solid start against a bad Indianapolis Colts defense.
