The Carolina Panthers beat the Buffalo Bills in Week 2, but the victory came at a cost. Tight end Greg Olsen suffered a broken foot and had surgery on it Monday morning. Olsen is expected to miss six to eight weeks, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen. The Panthers are expected to place him on injured reserve, with a potential return designation still to be determined.
Fantasy implications of Greg Olsen’s broken foot
The Panthers have lost a huge weapon. We break down the fantasy implications.

After Olsen departed, Ed Dickson got the bulk of the Panthers tight end snaps. He finished the game with two receptions on three targets, for 26 yards.
Fantasy impact: Olsen was either the first or second tight end off the board in most fantasy football drafts. If you drafted him and don’t have a second option on your bench, you’ll need to hit waivers this week. Ed Dickson is not a particularly viable fantasy option. Some options owned by less than 50 percent of owners include Cameron Brate, Julius Thomas, Antonio Gates, Jesse James, Charles Clay, and O.J. Howard.
There is also the concern about what it means for quarterback Cam Newton. That is a little harder to determine, but it is worth a slight downgrade of Newton until we see how he does for a full game without Olsen.
