When Cameron Meredith went down with a season-ending knee injury in the preseason, the common belief was that Kendall Wright would be elevated as the Chicago Bears’ new No. 1 receiver. It made sense on paper — Wright was the most accomplished veteran in an uninspired wide receiver room, a reliable target for Mike Glennon.

Wright has largely been a non-factor in the Bears passing game. We break down the fantasy implications.

We’re three games in, and that hasn’t really come to fruition yet. Wright does lead all Bears wide receivers with 14 targets, but it’s rookie running back Tarik Cohen taking the charge in the passing game, getting 25 targets while Glennon dinks and dunks his way down the field. Wright didn’t get a single target in the Bears’ overtime win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, with Glennon completing just one pass to receivers. Through three games, Wright has 10 catches for 103 yards.
Fantasy impact: It’s pretty obvious what the Bears’ offensive identity is at this point — pound the rock with Jordan Howard and Cohen, and hide Glennon as much as possible. That will be their game plan once again when they face the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night. Wright has WR3 upside in a vacuum, but there simply isn’t enough passing volume in this offense to capitalize. Fantasy owners can only hope he gets involved if the Packers force Chicago into a shootout.
