So it’s hard not to be skeptical of Amendola’s fantasy outlook in 2017. Even after Julian Edelman went down with a torn ACL, Amendola’s offensive role is uncertain heading into the Thursday night season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Fantasy impact: At first glance, Amendola seems like a natural replacement for Edelman as an experienced slot receiver. However, Bill Belichick is already suggesting that he’ll play limited snaps, owing to his long injury history. The Patriots also traded for Brandin Cooks, who has slot experience himself and is a far superior talent.
Amendola is worth at least a bench stash in deep leagues this early in the season, but fantasy owners shouldn’t count on him to contribute right out of the gate.
