Aston Martin confirms shock Adrian Newey signing
F1’s greatest designer is headed to Aston Martin next season

The announcement that Adrian Newey, one of the greatest engineers in Formula 1 history, would be leaving Red Bull at the end of the 2024 season sent shockwaves through the paddock. While tributes poured in for Newey ahead of the Miami Grand Prix from current and former drivers in the Red Bull family, speculation quickly began to swirl over where he would land next.
After months of that speculation, Aston Martin confirmed on Tuesday that come next season, Newey will be part of their team.
The team began teasing the announcement earlier in the day, with a number of posts on social media paying tribute to Newey’s “old-school” approach of putting pencil to paper when creating his designs:
Finally, an announcement began from the team’s AMR Technology Campus hosted by Laura Winter, who then introduced Lawrence Stroll, the Executive Chairman of the team.
“Certainly the most exciting news in our Aston Martin F1 history,” said Stroll. “Adrian Newey will be joining us as a shareholder, and the technical manager of our Formula 1 team.
“Adrian, arguably, is the greatest in the world at what he does.”
Newey is considered one of the greatest car designers in the history of the sport, as he was the mind behind designs such as last season’s RB19, the car that powered Red Bull to their second straight Constructors’ Championship, and Max Verstappen to his third straight Drivers’ Championship. Between Verstappen and Sergio Pérez, the RB19 won 21 of 22 grands prix last season, breaking a record set back in 1988.
Over his career, Newey has helped three different F1 teams win a combined 12 Constructors’ Championships (Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull). He has also helped seven different drivers (Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill, Jacques Villeneuve, Mika Häkkinen, Sebastian Vettel, and Verstappen) win a combined 13 Drivers’ titles.
Now Stroll is hoping those numbers increase over the time Newey is in Silverstone with Aston Martin.
