Max Verstappen is headed to Mercedes.

According to Formula 1 fans, that is.

In the latest F1 installment of SB Nation Reacts, F1 fans were asked where Verstappen will drive next season: Red Bull or Mercedes.

A majority of respondents, 59%, selected the Silver Arrows. Only 41% of those who responded believe Verstappen will stay at Red Bull.

Verstappen’s future has been a flashpoint of F1 debate in recent weeks, starting when a report surfaced in Sky Sports Italy that he was nearing agreement on a deal to move to Mercedes. While that reporting was brushed aside by several other outlets, Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff did concede that “conversations” were taking place in the buildup to the British Grand Prix.

Christian Horner himself continued to dismiss the reports as “noise,” until he was given the sack at Red Bull following the British Grand Prix. Was that a last-ditch effort to keep Verstappen in the fold?

If it was, at least in the minds of F1 fans, it did not work.
