Max Verstappen took home the F1 Sprint race at the Belgian Grand Prix on Saturday.

But the McLaren pair of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will start up front when the big points are on the line in the main event later today.

Norris captured pole position for the Belgian Grand Prix on Saturday with a thunderous lap in Q3, finishing just 0.085 seconds ahead of Piastri, his teammate and the driver Norris is chasing in the F1 Drivers’ Championship race. While Verstappen took the F1 Sprint race earlier in the day, he was nipped for third, as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc took P3 by just 0.003 seconds ahead of Verstappen.

Alex Albon delivered the best qualifying result of the season for Williams, as he will start fifth on the grid. George Russell, who took the checkered flag in last year’s Belgian Grand Prix before losing that win when his Mercedes W15 came in underweight, will start sixth.

Yuki Tsunoda delivered one of his best qualifying performances since joining Red Bull, as he is set to start seventh when the lights go out Sunday. Laurent Mekies, the new Red Bull Team Principal, made the call to fit Tsunoda’s RB21 with an upgraded floor for Tsunoda, rather than save that floor as a spare part for Verstappen.

The payoff was immediate.

“For Yuki, it was a very, very good step forward through the weekend, so it’s good to see him in Q3,” Mekies said after the session.

“Finishing there, I’m sure will give him a good boost in confidence. We upgraded his car just before qualifying as we are always pushing to the edge on our car parts quantity, but we decided to take the risk to upgrade his car.

“That’s why you may have seen we were nearly a bit late to go out in qualifying, but it was worth the effort from everyone. And certainly it helped in supporting his performance to get to a very, very good level.”
