Northern Trust Open, Round 2 Leaderboard Update: Fred Couples On Hunt For Long-Awaited PGA Tour Win

On Saturday morning, Round 2 of the Northern Trust Open is nearing conclusion, and Fred Couples holds a two-stroke lead over the rest of the field. If Couples can hold his lead over the final two rounds, he will have his first PGA Tour win in nearly eight years.

After shooting 3-under in Round 1 at the Riviera Country Club, Couples stormed right out of the gate in Round 2 with an eagle on the first hole. He played bogey-free golf after that, adding three birdies along the way to finish Round 2 at 5-under. Couples has 15 PGA Tour wins to his name, but none since April of 2003, when he won the Shell Houston Open by four strokes.

There are nine golfers within two strokes of Couples. Sitting in a tie for 24th places is Phil Mickelson, who is 1-under for the tournament after a back-and-forth second round.

Golfers were forced to conclude Round 2 play on Saturday morning, before the start of Round 3. Here is how the top of the leaderboard looks as we enter Round 3:

1. Fred Couples (-8)
T2. J.B. Holmes (-6)
T2. John Senden
T2. Spencer Levin
T2. Aaron Baddeley
T6. Ryan Moore (-5)
T6. Kevin Na
T6. Stewart Cink
T6. Trevor Immelman
T6. Robert Allenby
