Fresh off his come-from-behind victory at the 2011 Masters on Sunday, South African Charl Schwartzel is opting to depart the States for the Malaysian Open instead of sticking around to do national interviews, such as Letterman. CNBC's Darren Rovell calls this a "bad PR move." Which it probably is -- a little-known 26-year-old from South Africa is passing up what could be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to appear on national U.S. television. It would obviously boost his "name recognition" and "brand".

But on the other hand, Schwartzel is a little-known 26-year-old from South Africa who is trying to play more tournaments, improve his game further, and hopefully win more majors than just this year's Masters. Maybe he isn't interested in PR; maybe he just wants to be a better golfer. Let his game do his talking, and all that.
