Kevin Na is a professional golfer on the PGA Tour who’s already made just over $800,000 this year, even playing in The Masters last weekend. But on Thursday, Na had a day for the ages at the Valero Texas Open, recording a 16 on hole No. 9 at TPC San Antonio. It’s not as if he’s a bad golfer -- Na still finished the round with an 80, good for 8-over par -- but he had a terrible hole that involved at least one complete miss, the ball striking a tree then striking him in the thigh and what amounted to a game of ping-pong with a golf club in the woods.

After taking an unplayable lie and heading back to the tee with the penalty stroke, Na found himself back in the woods after another horrendous tee shot. It’s at that point he probably should’ve taken another unplayable and tried his tee shot again, perhaps using a pitching wedge instead.
But armed with the power of determination, Na took the battle to the trees and lost miserably. His first sign of trouble was probably nearly hitting himself in the groin on his initial attempt to hack the ball out. Never a quitter, Na put his head down and kept plugging away, slowly chopping his way out of the thick stuff and into the secondary cut. A sarcastic cheer erupted from the fans nearby, adding insult to injury.
Though Na’s hole was bad, it still wasn’t the worst in PGA Tour history. That honor belongs to none other than John Daly, who once had an 18 on a par five. It’s times like these that make me think I could play professional golf.
