    Valero Texas Open 2011 Results: Brendan Steele Captures 1st PGA Tour Victory

    On Sunday, Brendan Steele won the 2011 Valero Texas Open with an 8-under score, holding off Charley Hoffman and Kevin Chappell. In his first year on the PGA Tour, this win was his first PGA victory. He took home $1,266,504 for his winnings.

    Steele shot 1-under for the day, sinking two birdies and bogeying one hole in the front nine. He shot par on the back nine. Hoffman moved up six spots on the leaderboard following his 4-under for the final round. Two birdies and an eagle on the front nine, but a bogey on Hole No. 14 set him back. He kept Steele’s victory to a one streak by making a birdie on the final hole. Chappell entered the final round with a 5-under score and was at 8-under before a bogey on the 17th hole left him at 7-under.

    Valero Texas Open Leaderboard Update: Brendan Steele Rallies To Take Tournament Lead In Round 3

    On Saturday, Brendan Steele managed to piece together a terrific back nine at TPC San Antonio. As a result, after three rounds, he stands atop the Valero Texas Open leaderboard.

    Steele had slipped a bit on Friday, suffering a double bogey that dropped him a few spots on the leaderboard. He didn’t fare much better in the front nine on Saturday, going 1-over. But on the final nine holes, Steele shot 5-under without recording a single bogey, and he now stands 7-under for the tournament. Steele, age 28, is on the hunt for the first PGA Tour win of his career.
