When the newest world golf rankings are released next Monday, Tiger Woods will be outside of the top 10 for the first time in 14 years. That’s right. The last time Woods was out of the top 10 was right before he won the 1997 Masters Tournament.
Tiger Woods About To Leave Top 10 Of World Golf Rankings For First Time In 14 Years
Think about this: Woods was the world’s No. 1 golfer for 623 weeks, just under 12 years. For 14 years he was a top 10 golfer. The world golf rankings were only introduced in 1986! That’s dominance we won’t see for a long time.
For me, it’s going to be a strange sight. My first initiation into golf was watching Tiger Woods capture that 1997 Masters title. Fourteen years later it’s a wow moment: “Tiger has been in the top 10 for more than half of my years.” But then I soon realized that I haven’t really followed Tiger since 2004 or so.
