US Open Leaderboard: Rory McIlroy Holds Six Shot Lead After Two Rounds

Rory McIlroy is in control at Congressional Country Club after nearly two rounds of play at the 2011 US Open. McIlroy followed up a first round 65 with a 66 on Friday to take a commanding lead over the field. His score of 11-under is six shots better than Y.E. Yang, who sits in second place at 5-under for the tournament.

McIlroy had safely navigated the course throughout the first day, finishing 35 holes without a bogey until he hit the 18th hole of Friday. It was there he made his first mistake of the week, putting his second shot into the water and missing a putt for bogey to card a double-bogey. Even with the six on the final hole, McIlroy still finished the round at 5-under for the day.

Y.E. Yang has been steady and solid through two rounds, putting him at 5-under for the tournament. At the moment, he’s the only player within striking distance of McIlroy, with the rest of the field nine shots of more off the pace. The two will tee-off together on Saturday for the third round of play.

Sergio Garcia, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar and two others sit in a tie for third at 2-under for the tournament. Phil Mickelson is having a rough go of it so far this week, and sits at 1-over through two rounds. Robert Rock, who showed up in Maryland just hours before the tournament began after visa issues kept him at Europe, is at 1-under for the tournament and running on fumes.

Here is the top of the US Open leaderboard as it stands now.
