Obama, an avid golfer, believes it’s “up to the club to decide” who gets in and who doesn’t, but the president’s “personal opinion is that women should be admitted,” the Associated Press quoted White House press secretary Jay Carney as saying on Thursday.
The First Duffer weighed in on the controversy that has dogged this year’s Masters Tournament since longtime sponsor IBM named a woman, Virginia Rometty, as its president and chief executive in January. On Wednesday, Augusta National chair Billy Payne stonewalled reporters who tried to get him to discuss the issue during his annual pre-tourney press conference.
The Huffington Post reported that Obama plans to make an appearance at a summit “geared toward women in the workplace” on Friday.
