Byron Nelson Championship 2012: Ryan Palmer Leading, Looking To Win After 2011 Playoff Loss

Ryan Palmer didn’t get the result he wanted at the 2011 Byron Nelson Championship, losing to Keegan Bradley in a playoff. Palmer’s attempt to go ahead and win the tournament this year got off to a good start in the first round of the 2012 Byron Nelson Championship on Thursday.

Palmer shot a 6-under 64 on the TPC Four Seasons Resort course, taking a one-shot lead on Marc Leishman and Alex Cejka. Palmer’s fine day was bogey-free, with three birdies on both the front and back nines, and featured two pairs of back-to-back birdies.

Leishman had a more eventful day, with two eagles on his back nine, and Cejka finished hot, with four birdies on his final five holes and three straight to close. But Palmer could be forgiven for scanning the leaderboard for Bradley, and he wouldn’t have to look for long -- the defending champion is tied for 11th at 3-under.
