Tiger Woods’ final round of the 2012 Barclays championship Sunday didn’t exactly go as he had hoped. In fact, it was pretty much the exact opposite of how he needed to play if he had any chance of mounting a comeback for the victory.

Tiger Woods needed a great final round if he had any hope of winning The Barclays on Sunday. What he managed instead was his worst final round of the year.
Despite beginning the day at 4-under par and still somewhat in contention, Woods recorded a 76 in his final round; the worst performance he has had the entire 2012 PGA Tour season. He would leave the Black Course at Bethpage State Park in Long Island, NY 1-over par for the tournament and no longer the FedEx Cup points leader.
Woods’ problems were many throughout the round, which included wayward tee shots, misjudged course strategy and an abysmal putting showcase. There were times when Woods simply didn’t seem like he knew what shot he should play while standing in Bethpage’s thick rough on many holes, often leaving his approach shots short after making one misjudgment after another during his round.
Sunday’s round of 76 was Woods’ third-worst final round of his career, only trumped by a score of 77 in the final round at both the 2010 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and the 1998 Bay Hill Invitational.
Woods will return to action later this week for the 2012 Deutsche Bank Championship at the TPC Boston, where he hasn’t won a tournament since 2006. With his victory, Nick Watney has taken over the top spot of the FedEx Cup points race while Woods has fallen to third position.
