2013 British Open: Tiger Woods 1-over through 3

Tiger Woods’ British Open got off to a rough start, and like at the Masters, a drop he took could come into question.

Tiger Woods is on the course at the British Open, but he found trouble early and could once again face a penalty for an illegal drop.

Woods hit a snap hook off the tee on the first hole, finding the thick rough on the left. They were able to find his ball, but he went on to declare an unplayable lie and took a drop. The legality of the drop may come into question as Alex Miceli of Golfweek said players coming off the course questioned whether Woods’ drop was legal.

This wouldn’t be the first time there was a rules question about a Woods drop in a major, as he was eventually issued a two-stroke penalty at the Masters for taking an illegal drop.

Woods hit his third shot at No. 1 into a greenside bunker, but hit a terrific bunker shot to about three feet to come away with a bogey. He took a 2-iron off the tee on No. 2 and found the middle of the fairway. His approach shot left him about 15 feet for birdie, but his attempt slid just by and he finished it off for par.

He found a bunker again on No. 3, but once again hit an excellent shot out of the sand to come away with par. Woods is 1-over through three holes as he moves to the Par 3 fourth hole.

Update: Tiger now 1-over through 8. Here’s a look at the current leaderboard.
