Tiger Woods is through nine holes at the 2013 British Open, and he made the turn at 1-over and six strokes off the lead. While he’s avoided dropping too far back, Woods will now play the more difficult back nine.

Tiger Woods is onto the back nine, finishing up his first nine holes at 1-over.
Woods spent most of the day at 1-over, as he bogeyed the first hole. A birdie at No. 4 got him back to even par, but he dropped back to 1-over with a bogey two holes later. Woods had a chance to move back to even after a terrific approach shot on No. 8, but his tricky downhill birdie putt missed to the left.
While he’s 1-over, Woods did well to avoid further trouble. His bogeys on No. 1 and No. 6 could have been worse, but an excellent bunker shot on the first and a nice putt on the sixth helped him limit the damage. Although he avoided major issues on the front nine, he also failed to take advantage of many of the easier holes on the course. Of the nine easiest holes, six are on the front nine.
The stretch from No. 13 to No. 16 has been the toughest on the course with a total of 40 birdies made on those four holes thus far. Woods’ best chance to get a stroke or two back will come on the Par 5 17th. It’s been the second-easiest hole thus far, including eight eagles.
Although his score may not be what he’d prefer, Woods doesn’t appear to be having any issues with his injured elbow.
