British Open leaderboard 2013: Shiv Kapur leads, Tiger Woods 1-under

There is a surprise a top the British Open leaderboard as Shiv Kapur currently leads at 6-under.

Apparently Shiv Kapur didn’t get the memo that Muirfield was supposed to be more difficult in the afternoon. Despite playing in one of the final groups, Kapur birdied six of his first seven holes and currently leads at 6-under.

Kapur didn’t waste any time getting into the red with birdies on his first three holes, including at the difficult first hole. No. 1 played as the most-difficult hole on the course on Thursday, and Kapur’s birdie was one of just 11 made there in the first round. After a par on No. 4, Kapur birdied the fifth, sixth and seventh to take over the lead.

Not many other players in the late groups have found much success thus far, and just three players currently on the course are under par, including Tiger Woods. Woods made the turn at 1-over, but began his back nine with back-to-back birdies to move into the red for the first time. Masters champion Adam Scott is 1-under through 13.

A few notable players have had a rough go of things thus far, as Vijay Singh is 7-over through 16 while Jim Furyk is 6-over through 15. Here is a quick look at the top of the leaderboard and a few other notables.
