Dustin Johnson probably can’t do the math, since apparently nobody else can either, but somehow the idle 2013 WGC-HSBC Champions winner moved up a spot in the world golf rankings despite not playing a competitive round since July 24.
Dustin Johnson breaks Tiger Woods’ course record, moves up in world rankings
Dustin Johnson, still on leave from the PGA Tour, beats Tiger Woods’ score at Sherwood CC by one stroke. In completely unrelated news, the long-ball hitter ascends in the world rankings despite his continued hiatus from competitive golf.

And, while the proud papa-to-be reportedly broke Tiger Woods’ course record at Sherwood Country Club during his six-month personal leave/suspension/call-it-what-you-will, the 61 that TMZ reported he fired last week counts for nothing in the OWGR.
DJ, who is not at China’s Sheshan International GC this week to defend his title, rose from 16th-ranked to 15th in the world even though he remained in absentia from the PGA Tour — a peculiarity that did not go unnoticed in golfing circles.

— Steve Flesch (@Steve_Flesch) November 3, 2014 Johnson’s agent, David Winkle, acknowledged that he had no idea how his client, who made 17 tour starts last season before announcing he was taking time off to deal with “personal challenges” (a euphemism, according to Golf.com, for getting the heave-ho for testing positive for cocaine use), managed the feat.
“Somebody pointed that [World Ranking oddity] out to me this morning,” Winkle told Golf.com on Monday. “It’s funny, this is my 28th year in the business and I still don’t understand how the World Ranking works.”
Meanwhile, Johnson is suing several former “trusted advisors” for allegedly stealing $3 million from him, and getting in a few rounds of golf as well. Johnson posted his record-breaking score -- reportedly during a round with future father-in-law Wayne Gretzky -- which bettered Tiger’s by one stroke, on the course that for several years hosted Woods’ World Challenge.
Though the six-month hiatus would be officially over in February, Winkle said Johnson would likely continue his sabbatical until after fiancée Paulina Gretzky gives birth to the couple’s first child.
