Tiger Woods fights sickness during Hero World Challenge

Tiger Woods’ back may be fine, but it appears that the former world No. 1, who chunked and flubbed his way around to an opening-round 77 at the Hero World Challenge, may be playing Friday’s second round a bit under the weather.

You know what they say about “beware the sick golfer”? Well, Woods, who Thursday snapped his first tee shot in competition since August out of bounds, a day later striped a 3-wood off No. 1, stuck a wedge from the fairway to within 5 feet, and drained it for birdie.

Woods, playing alongside Patrick Reed, clad in Tiger’s signature black and red (as is the habit of the would-be “top-five player”), may be battling some type of bug but it did not seem to be hindering his play.

That was until Woods’ drive off the par-5 seventh tee found a water hazard (his first missed fairway on his front nine), forcing him to take a drop and save par with a putt of some 10 feet.

And then the wheels wobbled. After swiping his tee shot into the right rough on the eighth, his chip shot went astray as so many did during Woods’ woeful wedge play on Thursday.

A split fairway with a 3-wood off the ninth tee led to a two-putt par and even-par at the turn -- way better than the 5-over 41 through nine Woods shot yesterday.

Reed, by the way, was enjoying his day with Tiger, scorching the course to an eagle on No. 7 and five birdies in nine holes (29) to get to a tie for first for the week.
