Tiger Woods chunks 2 more, makes triple-bogey on way to a tie for last-place

Tiger Woods, who this week has had a career’s worth of chunks -- those hurled and wedged -- flubbed it again (twice!) on the 13th hole Sunday at Isleworth and ended up posting a very crooked snowman on his scorecard.

Woods, who shot a 3-under 69 on Saturday at the Hero World Challenge despite suffering flu-like symptoms that caused him to vomit several times, has had a mostly hellish time on the par-5 13th all week. While he recorded an eagle there on Friday, he had that triple as well as two bogeys on his way to a tie for last place (T17 in the 18-player field) in his first competitive start since August. Hunter Mahan came in behind Woods to match his even-par mark for the week.

Woods, whose chunk count with his wedges (there was no unofficial number on those retched into his towel) was up to nine after his turn at 13, was not the only player having trouble with the green complex.

Still, it was the tourney’s host’s duff-and-runs that served as serious “momentum” killers in Woods’ first competitive start since taking a long injury-related layoff after missing the cut at the PGA Championship in August.

Tiger’s adventures were not over, as he nearly hit his next tee shot out of the arena.

A putt from downtown saved a par on 14 but he gave it right back with a 3-jack on the par-3 15th. Woods followed a rare birdie on 16 with another on his penultimate hole, and a par on 18 put a merciful end to the most recent comeback for Woods, who could make his next start in February at Torrey Pines, according to Jason Sobel.

In the meantime, while Woods inked a lucrative, multi-year endorsement contract with the title sponsor of the event that benefits his foundation, his performance this week spawned an opportunity that surely must happen.

And for preservation, here’s a compilation of Tiger’s chunky week, courtesy of Adam Sarson. Five of the nine flubs came on that rally-killing 13th hole.
