Tiger Woods will give it a go at this week’s WGC Cadillac Championship at Doral

Tiger Woods, who has undergone several days of treatment on his sore back after withdrawing from the final round of last week’s Honda Classic, plans to play in the WGC-Cadillac Championship starting Thursday.

“He wouldn’t be coming down here if he didn’t intend to compete at the highest level,” Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg told Bob Harig Wednesday morning ahead of Tiger’s scheduled 1 p.m. ET press conference. “He intends to play and wants to play well.”

Woods planned to meet the media and then get a glimpse of the newly revamped Trump National Doral. The world No. 1 (who may be hearing footsteps from second-ranked Adam Scott) had earned four career victories on the old Doral and it was unclear whether he would have a chance to play the track that has been completely overhauled since he won the event last year.

Woods was also slated to play at Bay Hill in two weeks, which is officially the only other Masters warmup on his calendar. Steinberg said Tiger, who has played in just one full worldwide event (a T41 in Dubai) and logged incompletions in two others (missed 54-hole cut at Torrey Pines and Sunday’s WD from the Honda), may add another event to his schedule, according to Harig.

“I’d be surprised if he did, but it’s something we talk about,” Steinberg said. “He has basically played the same schedule leading up to the Masters for years.”
