U.S. Open weather forecast: Another day, another threat of storms

Second round of the 2014 U.S. Open will feature another chance of afternoon of showers and storms, but will the weather improve for the weekend?

The first round of the 2014 U.S. Open at Pinehurst in North Carolina feature scattered showers and storms around the course during the afternoon and we could see that again this afternoon for the second round. The same system that sparked scattered showers and storms continues to weaken over the region. Because of this system, although a bit weaker, more scattered showers and storms are likely this afternoon.

A boundary will slide south of the area on Saturday and Sunday. This will help keep the third and final rounds of the tournament mostly dry. A stray isolated shower or storm can’t be ruled out, but the threat of a shower or storm is far less than it was Thursday and today.

The only other weather issue will be the heat and humidity. It will be muggy with highs reaching the upper 80s and low 90s each day.

FRIDAY - SECOND ROUND WEATHER FORECAST
The forecast for today is similar to that of Thursday with scattered showers and storms likely during the afternoon. It will once again be hot and humid with afternoon temperatures reaching near 90, and a variable wind between 5 and 10 mph.

WEEKEND - THIRD & FINAL ROUND WEATHER FORECAST
The forecast for the weekend looks drier, especially for Sunday. There is the risk of an isolated shower or storm during the afternoon but the threat is much lower than Thursday and Friday. Highs both days will be near or into the low 90s.
