Ian Poulter must have gone into withdrawal after quitting Twitter for almost an entire week, but he could not resist returning to social media after spying Rory McIlroy parading around in some threads that rather resembled an ensemble the natty Brit might don.
Ian Poulter ends Twitter boycott, tweaks Rory McIlroy’s suit choice for Man United match
Ian Poulter broke his Twitter silence to poke fun at Rory McIlroy for stealing his 3-piece suit.

Hey you can keep your Claret Jug but can I have my suit back please Mr @McIlroyRory I thought something was missing. pic.twitter.com/wI12lw7qdV
— Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) August 16, 2014 McIlroy, the reigning British Open champion, claret jug in hand, appeared on the field during halftime of a soccer game between his beloved Manchester United and Swansea. While the fans went wild for golf’s No. 1, Europe’s 2012 Ryder Cup hero was bemused to recognize the pattern of McIlroy’s three-piece get-up. Seems Poulter showed off a similar outfit at Wimbledon.
The newly buff McIlroy, who looked to be bursting out of his tailored attire, could not resist his own jab at Poulter, who has zero major championship trophies to Rory’s four.
Sorry @IanJamesPoulter you must be mistaken... this suit was only available with the claret jug!
— Rory Mcilroy (@McIlroyRory) August 16, 2014 Poulter went off the social-media grid after earning nothing but pseudo sympathy for a tweet he posted during last week’s PGA Championship in which he complained about his kids’ nanny being forced to sit with the unwashed masses on a British Airways flight.
Booked 6 business seats for my wife & nanny to fly home & @British_Airways downgrade my nanny so katie has no help for 10 hours with 4 kids.
— Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) August 8, 2014 Many of Poulter’s 1.7 million followers were not amused by the bazillionaire’s whining and told him so, some apparently taking aim at the golfer’s wife. Poulter took offense and went Twitter silent — for six whole days.
As a lot of you have abused my wife over my poorly worded tweet. Best thing is to not tweet. Goodbye for now.
— Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) August 10, 2014 The Ryder Cup teammates will have a chance to compete for best-dressed this week at The Barclays, the first of four FedExCup playoff games.
