John Daly, in flip flops but sans Loudmouth pants, throws out 1st pitch in Tampa

Not quite qualifying for the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup playoffs, John Daly eschews spikes in favor of flip-flops to throw out the ceremonial 1st pitch at a Rays game.

John Daly is probably more renowned these days for his colorful pants collection than his golf game, but the Loudmouth rep took the mound at Tropicana Field without his usual flashy attire to throw out the ceremonial first pitch of a game between the Rays and the Tigers.

Like Phil Mickelson, who was a hit at Callaway’s Carlsbad HQ last year when he showed up with the claret jug and wearing shorts and flip flops, Daly pawed the mound with his feet stuffed into a pair of flimsy sandals.

For the occasion, Daly traded his signature SpongeBob SquarePants or rainblow-splotched big boy trousers for a pair of Michael Jordan-like hoops shorts, a tee shirt, and the flips. After whipping the ball into the catcher, Daly and his “epic blonde/white mullet” posed for photos along the first-base line.

Alas, Long John’s fastball did nothing to help the lowly Rays’ fourth-place fortunes (the worst-to-first-to-worst Red Sox have the cellar covered), as Detroit beat up on Joe Maddon’s nine by a score of 6-0.
