17-year-old wins tournament at Pebble Beach with walk-off double eagle on 18

Christopher Meyers is headed to Stanford next year, but he might as well call it quits now. You can’t do anything cooler than this.

Stanford commit Christopher Meyers was on the 18th at Pebble Beach participating in the Nature Valley First Tee Open. He needed a birdie to tie. He could’ve won with an eagle. Instead, he hit a 4-iron 204 yards and into the hole, winning the tournament with a walk-off albatross.

Let’s break down the awesomeness here:

1. How often do you see somebody win a tournament with a hole-out from off the green? When’s the last tournament that didn’t feature a winning putt, but rather a winning shot from 200 yards away?

2. This would be an amazing shot at any point in any round with any score, but it happened on the 18th hole of a tournament he could’ve lost with a par.

3. This happened on the famous 18th at Pebble Beach. According to officials, this is the first time someone has ever hit an albatross on that famous hole in tournament play.

4. Seriously, this is too cool.

The tournament format paired Champions Tour players with juniors, so the 17-year-old amateur was paired with two-time U.S. Open winner Lee Janzen. Now Meyers will follow in the footsteps of Tiger Woods and others with Stanford’s golf program.
