When Paul McGinley takes the field Thursday in his seventh AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am start, he’ll likely do so with new gear since his own golf clubs were stolen from his rental car Monday.

Paul McGinley said he’s ‘disappointed’ that someone(s) broke into his rental car in San Francisco and took all his ‘stuff’ -- including his golf clubs, passport and assorted Ryder Cup relics.

The Irish golfer, who captained the victorious 2014 European Ryder Cup team, got into San Francisco a few days early to enjoy the views and have lunch with a friend. He arrived back at his car to find the back window smashed and everything of import -- including his custom TaylorMade sticks, golf shoes and gloves and passport -- gone.
“All my stuff was taken,” he told the San Francisco Chronicle.
Also missing were some Ryder Cup souvenirs McGinley had planned to auction off for charity.
“I was just disappointed,” he said. “I had only been in the country an hour and a half. It can happen in any country, or city in the world. I thought it was safe, and it didn’t cross my mind.”
McGinley drew Arnold Palmer’s grandson, Sam Saunders, as his playing partner for the first three rounds of the annual clambake on the Monterey Peninsula.
