Troy Merritt joined the fun during one of the wackiest days on the PGA Tour when the Valero Texas Open player caved in the face of his 2-iron on a tee shot at TPC San Antonio.
Troy Merritt breaks the face of his 2-iron off the tee at Texas Open

Golf was hard enough today. I didn't need this to happen on 11. Hit it hard, and it didn't even get to the fairway!! pic.twitter.com/Jm4pPwmjKh
— Troy Merritt (@TROYMERRITT_PGA) March 27, 2015 Seriously, fans and players alike will be shaking their heads for a long time over Thursday’s goings-on. The general hilarity included D.A. Points blowing up ShotTracker, Phil Mickelson’s 8-iron breaking in half during an everyday bunker shot, and Aaron Baddeley holing an ace that wasn’t really an ace on a par-four.
And then came Merritt’s equipment malfunction, which resulted in an unintentional layoff on the par-four hole, since his ball traveled some 155-yard off the tee, according to PGATour.com. Merritt bogeyed the hole and entered Friday’s second round at 2-over 74.
And like Phil, who’s a diehard Callaway guy, Merritt’s standing by his sticks.
Still love my @WilsonGolf equipment!! Just hit that 2 iron in the perfect spot, I guess. I'll have a new one in the bag shortly!!
