Watch a furious Rory McIlroy launch his club into a lake at Doral

Rory McIlroy puts another ball in the water at Doral and decides he’s had enough with this particular club.

After starting the season with a win and a second-place finish over in the Middle East, Rory McIlroy has lost some of that form in two early-season starts in Florida. He missed the cut last week at the Honda Classic and then started this week’s WGC-Cadillac Championship with a 40 on his first nine on Thursday.

Friday’s round at Doral has shown some more shakiness in what looked like an impenetrable game just a month ago. It came to a head on the par-5 8th hole, when McIlroy lost an approach shot way out into the middle of one of Doral’s many water hazards. But his ball wasn’t the only thing that ended up in the middle of the pond. McIlroy had had enough and launched one of his Nike sticks into the drink. It was a rare sign of frustration from the world No.1. Here’s the full sequence:

When Golf Channel’s on-course reporter following Rory’s group asked his caddie which club he lost, the frustrated looper tersely responded, “A Nike one.” Later reports revealed it was a 3-iron, and who needs those anyways.

The form was impeccable so of course it had to be set to the proper musical accompaniment.

And Augusta is just a month away!
