2015 Masters: TV schedule and coverage for Friday’s round

The Masters continues from Augusta National on Friday with the cut line looming and Jordan Spieth attempting to pull away from the field.

On Sunday at the Masters last year, Jordan Spieth went from tied for the lead to start the day to watching Bubba Watson pull away and claim the green jacket. If the opening round is any indication, Spieth is on his way to being on the winning side of things this season.

A combination of a few good breaks and some excellent golf allowed Spieth to rack up birdies at Augusta National on his way to an 8-under round of 64. That was good enough to open a three-stroke lead after 18 holes. While extremely impressive, Spieth’s round was close to being even better. He was 8-under through 14 and needed just two birdies in his final four holes to set a major championship record with a round of 62. The changes of that happening eroded quickly as he bogeyed No. 15.

The opening round was a great start, but a good first 18 only goes so far. There is still a lot of golf to be played and several players posted impressive scores to stay in the thick of the leaderboard behind Spieth. Four players are tied for second place at 5-under, including Justin Rose and Jason Day. Phil Mickelson is 2-under heading into Friday while defending champion Bubba Watson and world No. 1 Rory McIlroy are both 1-under.

Tiger Woods will begin Friday nine strokes off the lead. He had an up-and-down day on Thursday on the way to a 1-over round of 73. His short game was markedly improved from his last competitive appearance, but he still had plenty of rust. At 1-over, Woods will sits in a tie for 41st place. That puts him on the right side of the cut line as it stands, but with very little margin for error. Depending on the scoring conditions of Friday, Woods might need to post a red number to safely be in line to make the weekend.

Woods, Spieth and others will tee off in the morning when conditions should be prime for scoring. Rain and even lightning are a possibility in the evening and could potentially derail the end of the round. The morning wave shouldn’t have to deal with that, but viewers will have limited options to watch the early action live. ESPN will once again handle the television coverage, but the broadcast will not begin until 3 p.m. due to coverage restrictions from Augusta National. That will allow viewers to watch a good portion of the afternoon wave, but viewers will be limited to a few online streams to see any live golf in the morning.

CBSSports.com and Masters.com will air a few online streams including one dedicated to Amen Corner and another to holes Nos. 15 and 16. There will also be featured group streams, including one that focuses on Spieth’s pairing. Here is a complete look at the second round of television coverage and options to follow the round. All times are ET.
