The first two rounds of the 2015 Masters were full of great shots, tremendous putts and some of the biggest names in golf in the spotlight. Jordan Spieth overshadowed all of it -- the 21-year-old dominated Augusta National during the first 36 holes with rounds of 64 and 66. At 14-under, he set the Masters 36-hole record and opened a five-stroke lead on the field. He’ll remain in the spotlight on Saturday when he tees off in the final round.
Masters 2015 tee times: Tiger Woods draws Sergio Garcia in third round
Jordan Spieth holds a five-stroke lead heading into the weekend and will be the last person off the tee on Saturday as a result.
Despite making only his second Masters appearance, Spieth made his way around the famed Augusta track like a seasoned veteran. He made 15 birdies in his first 36 holes, including six on Friday. His only dropped shot thus far came with a bogey at No. 15 on Thursday. Sitting at 14-under heading into the third round, Spieth is seven strokes better than where Bubba Watson sat last year as the 36-hole leader.
Although Spieth distanced himself from the field, he would be even further ahead had Charley Hoffman not played well. Hoffman shot 67-68 in the first two rounds to post a 9-under. In a typical year, Hoffman would likely own at least a share of the lead. Instead, he will have to settle for second place and a spot in the final pairing with Spieth. The two are scheduled to tee off at 2:55 p.m. ET.
Justin Rose, Dustin Johnson, Paul Casey and Phil Mickelson are among the players near the top of the leaderboard heading into Saturday. Rose, Johnson and Casey are all tied for third place at 7-under. Rose and Johnson will form the second-to-last pairing while Casey and Mickelson -- who is sixth at 6-under -- will be the third-to-last off the tee.
A pair of Australians will also be part of the late-afternoon tee times. Former Masters champion Adam Scott sits in a tie for 12th at 3-under. Jason Day opened Friday at 5-under, but struggled some and shot a 74 to settle back at 3-under. The two will be paired in the third round.
There will be plenty of eyes on Tiger Woods in the third round -- his play has been surprisingly strong coming off his extended absence. Woods’ short game has been drastically improved and he was able to card a 3-under 69 on Friday. That was good enough to move him to 2-under for the tournament, where he will be paired with a familiar face. Sergio Garcia dropped to 2-under with a 74 and will now be paired with Woods. The two have played together plenty of times before and have some history off the course. They are scheduled to tee off at 1:15 p.m.
