The 2015 Masters is headed to the weekend and if the final two rounds go anything like the first two, the Jordan Spieth show will continue at Augusta. The 21-year-old racked up birdies during the first two rounds on his way to setting the 36-hole tournament record at 14-under. He will begin the third round five strokes clear of the field and the heavy favorite to win the green jacket.
Masters 2015: TV schedule and coverage for Saturday’s round
CBS will take over television coverage for the third round of the Masters.
After playing early on Friday and before the start of television coverage, Spieth will be the center of attention on Saturday as he plays nearly all of his round during the television window. CBS is set to begin its television coverage at 3 p.m. ET with Spieth and Charley Hoffman scheduled to tee off in the final pairing at 2:55 p.m. With Hoffman teeing off first, there is a chance all of Spieth’s shots could occur during the television broadcast.
Spieth has already made some history with the 36-hole scoring record and he has a chance to make much more. A win would make him the second-youngest player ever -- behind only Tiger Woods -- to win the green jacket. He could also challenge Woods for the all-time scoring record at 18-under. To do that, he will need to follow up his back-to-back strong rounds with another solid, likely sub-70 one. Players have had success making birdies and there could be a low score out there on Saturday, but Spieth would have to come back to the pack some to make it a real contest. If he’s able to shoot anything under par the next two rounds, catching him would be colossal challenge.
After ESPN handled television coverage during the first two rounds, the broadcast will move to CBS for the final two rounds. Coverage will still be restricted due to Augusta National regulations. but CBS’ coverage will run from 3 to 7 p.m. or the end of the round. Viewers will also be able to follow that coverage online with simulcast streams available at Masters.com and CBSSports.com.
Although there won’t be any additional television coverage, viewers will be able to follow a bit more of the action online with live streams. Whether it’s a stream dedicated to Amen Corner, another following Nos. 15 and 16 or one of the two featured group streams that will focus on a few pairings, viewers can catch a bit of an extended glimpse into the third round action.
