Jordan Spieth is still out in front at the Masters, but all the biggest names in the game -- including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Rory McIlroy -- charged their way into a late Sunday tee time.
The luckiest man in golf is back playing Masters

Andrew Redington/Getty ImagesA little golf nerd tradition at the Masters is rooting for an odd number of players to make the cut on Friday afternoon. Why? Because it means Jeff Knox will get the call to play on the weekend.
As we head into the weekend of the 2019 Masters, Knox will once again have his name called for Saturday and Sunday’s rounds at Augusta National. He’ll tee it up with Eddie Pepperell in the first game of the day on Saturday at Augusta National.

The 2015 Masters had it all. Jordan Spieth, the coming-of-age talent shattering records at just 21 years old and matching Tiger Woods’ overall 18-under scoring record. There was Tiger’s return to the game. We didn’t even know if the four-time Masters winner could chip a golf ball and play competitively anymore, but he surged into the top 10 and looked nothing like the embarrassing wreck from earlier in the week.
Tiger ignited the crowd on Saturday and was firing darts in a way we had not seen in several years. It led to a juicy Tiger-Rory McIlroy Sunday tee time at Augusta. And they weren’t the only big names playing late in the day and chasing Spieth. There was three-time winner Phil Mickelson finding his form after missing the Masters cut last year for the first time since 1997. Mickelson and the Augusta crowds have a longstanding love affair, and he made an array of bomb putts, hole-outs, and wild approaches to charge at Spieth throughout the weekend.

Rob Schumacher-USA TODAY SportsNo player is more fun to follow for on-course commentary than Phil Mickelson. Thanks to the mics set up throughout modern broadcasts, we’ve heard many cool conversations between Phil and his caddie, expressions of horror when a shot goes off, and several exclamations calling his shot in mid-air. This was one of the best we’re heard in awhile, as Phil nearly holed-out for double-eagle at the par-5 15th.

Michael Madrid-USA TODAY SportsIt is happening. Tiger Woods is looking like the old Tiger Woods through his first nine in the Masters third round.
After posting three birdies in his first four holes, Woods continued to stripe his irons and drop his approach shots right on top of the flagstick. He picked up his fourth birdie of the day at the par-5 8th hole, and he’s on-track to go out in 32. He’s now 6-under for the tournament and in the TOP FIVE.

Michael Madrid-USA TODAY SportsWith nine holes to play in his second round, it looked like Rory McIlroy was headed home after just two days at the Masters. The world No. 1 made an ugly double bogey at the 9th to go out in 40, but since then, he’s been the hottest player at the Masters -- and that includes Jordan Spieth.
McIlroy came into the house with an absurd 31 on his second nine (which included a bogey!), and he’s now added an eagle on his second hole Saturday. After he smashed his drive 342 yards down the hill at the second, Rory safely put his approach in the center of the green some 37 feet from the cup.

Sam Greenwood/Getty ImagesSergio Garcia is apparently as excited about playing with Tiger Woods in Saturday’s third round of the Masters as the rest of us are to watch the two go at it one more time.
Two years after the duo’s years-long simmering feud exploded all over TPC Sawgrass, the golf goddesses saw fit to reward us all with a Tiger-Sergio redux, and Garcia was all atwitter about the prospect.

Michael Madrid-USA TODAY SportsIt is moving day at the Masters, and there’s never been a year where a big move needs to be made more than this Saturday. Jordan Spieth is blowing out the field at the midpoint, breaking records, and threatening to make this a laugher before the first tee ball is hit on Sunday morning.
Spieth backed up his opening round 8-under 64 with a second round 66, setting a new 36-hole record at the Masters of 14-under 130. The previous record stood for almost 40 years -- Ray Floyd’s 13-under 131 set back in 1976. He’s got 15 birdies and just one bogey through his first two days. And if he doesn’t start making a few more bogeys, this thing will be over soon.

Andrew Redington/Getty ImagesTiger Woods made the cut at the Masters on Friday, after which he took his campaign for faster greens to another level.
“It’s up to what the committee does overnight,” Woods said after posting a second-round 3-under 69 in his second competitive round since February. “Whether or not they’re going to make the golf course like this where we can go get it or if they’re going to make it hard and firm, where it’s going to be tough to make birdies.”

The first 36 holes at the 2015 Masters are complete, leaving just 55 players in the field to compete for the green jacket. Everyone is currently chasing Jordan Spieth who set a 36-hole Masters scoring record and will head to the weekend with a five-stroke lead. Considering how well Spieth has played and his current position, the weekend is either headed toward the 21-year-old claiming his first major championship or a historical collapse.
Only three players have held a five-stroke lead through 36 holes at Augusta National, according to Justin Ray of Golf Channel. All three went on to claim the title. Spieth will attempt keep that streak rolling and could become the first player since Raymond Floyd in 1976 to win wire-to-wire. Spieth has already set some Masters history and has plenty more in his sights. Even Tiger Woods’ tournament scoring record of 18-under is at risk. Spieth is already 14-under and showing no signs of slowing down.

The 2015 Masters is headed to the weekend and if the final two rounds go anything like the first two, the Jordan Spieth show will continue at Augusta. The 21-year-old racked up birdies during the first two rounds on his way to setting the 36-hole tournament record at 14-under. He will begin the third round five strokes clear of the field and the heavy favorite to win the green jacket.
After playing early on Friday and before the start of television coverage, Spieth will be the center of attention on Saturday as he plays nearly all of his round during the television window. CBS is set to begin its television coverage at 3 p.m. ET with Spieth and Charley Hoffman scheduled to tee off in the final pairing at 2:55 p.m. With Hoffman teeing off first, there is a chance all of Spieth’s shots could occur during the television broadcast.

It’s moving day at the Masters and the afternoon half of the tee sheet is absolutely loaded with stars of the game. Of course, all of them are a mile off the lead thanks to Jordan Spieth’s record opening 36 holes. But very few of the top names missed the cut this year, and there will be no shortage of world-class talents trying to pull off the chasedown on moving day.
While Spieth lords over everything in that anchor tee time at 2:55 p.m. ET, the juiciest tee time on the sheet is at 1:15 p.m. That’s when the friendly duo of Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia will go off the 1st tee. The 14-time major winner and the precocious Spaniard have a bit of a history, most of it common knowledge for even the most casual golf fan. There have been relatively few opportunities for the two to play together since that blowup at the 2013 Players Championship, and there’s been no real incidents since that weeks-long contretemps.

Ezra Shaw/Getty ImagesThe second round of the 2015 Masters is in the books, which means the field has been trimmed heading into the weekend. The cutline settled at 2-over with 55 of the 97-player field making the cut. The top 50 plus ties made it to the weekend. While the majority of top players played well enough to stick around, a few notable names will be headed home early, including Jim Furyk and Luke Donald.
Furyk followed a 2-over round of 74 on Thursday with a 1-over round of 73 on Friday. At one point he was sitting 6-over for the tournament, but made a strong surge down the backstretch to make a run at the cut line. He birdied three of his final six holes, but it wasn’t quite enough to secure a spot in the third round. A similar birdie run would have sent Donald to the weekend, but he parred his final six holes to finish at 3-over and just one shot too high. Billy Horschel got off to a solid start with an opening round 70, but struggled mightily on Friday. He didn’t record a single birdie and played the final five holes at 4-over to finish at 4-over for the tournament. A double bogey on No. 18 moved Horschel to the wrong side of the cutline.
