Tiger Woods, to no one’s great surprise, announced Friday via Twitter that his next start will be at The Players Championship in two weeks.
Tiger Woods will compete at The Players Championship
Tiger Woods will try to grab his third Players Championship victory after notching his second at TPC Sawgrass in 2013.

Woods has two wins as a professional at TPC Sawgrass, home of the iconic island green, and tweeted that he was “hoping for a repeat of 2013,” when he laid waste to Sergio Garcia and earned a two-stroke victory over Kevin Streelman and Jeff Maggert.
Looking forward to going back to THE PLAYERS this year, hoping for a repeat of 2013.
— Tiger Woods (@TigerWoods) April 24, 2015 Woods’ announcement came after Jack Nicklaus said the former world No. 1 would tee it up at his Memorial Tournament in June. Tiger missed both tourneys last year as he recovered from back surgery, and will use each as a tuneup for the U.S. Open later in June.
After a miserable start to his 2015 season that included a missed cut in Phoenix, a withdrawal at Torrey Pines, and a self-imposed two-month hiatus from the PGA Tour, Woods returned to competition earlier this month at the Masters. Following a T-17 finish at Augusta, the 14-time major champion was typically evasive about his upcoming schedule, saying only that his next start was “not going to be for a while.”
The Players commences May 7, and using history as a guide, that event and Jack’s tourney (June 4-June 7) will be the only two Woods will start ahead of the June 18-June 21 U.S. Open at Chambers Bay.
