While the birdies aren’t rolling in with the same frequency for Tiger or anyone else on Saturday at the Wyndham Championship, the main attraction is still in a share of the lead.

It did not take long for Tiger Woods to turn his 36-hole co-lead into a solo lead on Saturday. The hype was building all day in Greensboro as Woods warmed up for the anchor tee time on the weekend of a PGA Tour event for the first time in more than two years. All week the crowds in Greensboro -- some of the best even when Tiger is not there -- have gone wild following the 79-time Tour winner but first-time Wyndham participant. He got them roaring on the first green when he poured in this birdie putt, a continuation of much of what we saw through the first two rounds up on the greens.
That pushed Tiger to 12-under and in the lead all alone. With the way this course is playing, however, it would not last. Jonas Blixt was up ahead putting together what should be the round of the day, a 62, and quickly joined Tiger at that 12-under number.
Tiger cleaned up a two-putt birdie putt at the par-5 5th to get to 13-under, which is where he stood when he made the turn. Those par-5s have been such a significant part of this precipitous decline this year. He always dominated those holes and zipped past the field with birdies and eagles. Now, most of these young talents have the distance advantage on Tiger and they’re all posting their own red numbers while Woods has been throwing away shots all summer. That’s not been an issue through three rounds in Greensboro.
Jason Gore and Blixt matched Tiger at 13-under when he made the turn, but he’s got some birdie chances coming up on his way into the clubhouse.

We’re not going to think about all that mess, though, and instead choose to embrace the fireworks and form we’ve seen all week in Greensboro. At the 10th, it appeared he would drop his first shot of the day, but he saved it yet again with a long putt -- then he threw a nice little fist pump to celebrate the saving dagger in the center of the cup.
