It’s the last Friday in August. Regular season football has not yet arrived to occupy your brain for the weekend. And you probably don’t want to do work on a Friday anyways. Well, good news, there’s some moderately interesting golf -- playoff golf, if you even want to go that far -- on the schedule.
How to watch The 2015 Barclays live online, TV schedule and more
The No. 1 player in the world may not hold that title after Friday if he’s unable to make the cut. Jordan Spieth will be front and center during Golf Channel’s second-round broadcast of the FedExCup -- here’s how to watch.

The second round of The Barclays tees off before 8 a.m. at Plainfield Country Club in northern New Jersey. There will be no TV coverage until late in the day, but PGA Tour Live will have a marquee groups stream up and running for the 8:15 a.m. tee time. The stream will feature six players who started the week inside the top 13 in the FedExCup standings. The custom for these postseason events is to group everyone together consecutively, according to the standings. It can sometimes break up the bigger names you’re used to seeing together and lead to odd pairings -- Phil Mickelson with David Hearn and Marc Leishman? But you can also get a little bit of drama as the bubble boys fight for elbow room in the standings and try to make it through to the next week.
Of the featured players on Friday morning, the most intriguing and enjoyable one to watch is probably Brooks Koepka. He’s far from a household name, but close tour watchers have come to embrace the up-and-coming talent. It’s pretty simple why he’s fun to watch -- he absolutely mashes the ball off the tee and typically gives no effs, throwing caution to the wind and always choosing to send it.
The other players on the morning stream are all world-class, but Koepka, for my money, is the main draw. They will all be behind the new paywalled subscription service, PGA Tour Live, which is just about a month old. This FedExCup will certainly be a nice litmus test for how much traction, interest and subscriptions they can pull in for these early morning Thursday and Friday streams heading into next season, when it will presumably be a well-oiled machine.
In the afternoon, the main attractions will be out on the course during the Golf Channel broadcast window. Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson and Jason Day -- the top three players in the FEC standings -- tee off together at 1:06 p.m. ET. Golf Channel’s pregame show will be live by 1:30 p.m. and should show many of this group’s shots during live look-ins before switching over to the full-time broadcast at 2 p.m.
Spieth posted his worst round of the year on Thursday and will now need to grind out a round just to make the cut and hold onto his world No. 1 ranking. Bubba holds a share of the 18-hole lead at 5-under. Jason Day appears significantly injured and grimaced in pain upon impact on several occasions on Thursday. So there will be plenty of things to watch in this group on Friday afternoon and expect Golf Channel to show just about every single shot from the threesome.
If you’re unable to watch the afternoon broadcast on TV, Golf Channel will have their usual simulcast stream up and running online. Here are all your media options for Friday at The Barclays:
