The PGA Tour returns Thursday and they will now be back to contending with the football behemoth swallowing much of the sports weekend. After a week break, the FedExCup resumes with the BMW Championship, the annual third leg of the postseason played at a variety of Chicago and midwestern venues (save for last year’s trip to Denver). With football season now here in full force, NBC takes over the controls for the final three stops of the FedExCup while CBS broadcasts AFC games and SEC football during the weekend days. Golf is not going to compete with that but NBC and Golf Channel have managed to carve out the space and room (around ND football and SNF) for the close of the season.

Golf returns to Chicago, where the FedExCup continues and can serve as a nice distraction on Thursday afternoon before football consumes your weekend.

Golf Channel will have sole coverage of the first two rounds before splitting the duties with their Comcast sister on the weekend. This is the only FedExCup venue not in the eastern time zone. That difference combined with the limited 70-man field means that the tee times and coverage will all start a little later. The field is condensed into two hours of tee times off split tees and the first group will not go out until just after noon back east. So the entire field will play at least some portion of their round during the broadcast window, which begins at 3 p.m. ET on GC.
The marquee group of Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, and Rickie Fowler tees off at 12:53 p.m. ET. They should have their entire second nine still to play when GC comes on the air. But if, after this long week away, you absolutely have to watch golf before that broadcast, there will be streaming options from the start of the round. Unfortunately, the only stream available will be behind the newish paywall setup that is PGA Tour Live. A $4.99 per month subscription is required for PGA Tour Live, which launched at the start of August and shows the rounds of two marquee groups on Thursday and Friday mornings. This FedExCup is a big test before it’s fully up and humming for next year, but it’s not filling much of a void here this week because so much of the field is playing so much of their round during the TV window.
Later in the afternoon, there will be multiple stream options if you’re stuck in the office and want to ignore work. Golf Channel will have their usual simulcast stream running by 3 p.m. while PGA Tour Live will switch to featured holes coverage of a par-4 and par-3 on the back nine. Here are all your media and streaming options for Thursday’s opening round from Conway Farms:
