Play it as it lies. Fabian Gomez very nearly got up-and-down from the hospitality tent. #QuickHits http://t.co/6d2ddto4nj

Instead of taking relief, Fabian Gomez decided to play it as it lies from this elevated hospitality tent above the green at the BMW Championship.

Phil Mickelson has started a trend. It was at last year’s Barclays that Phil decided to play a wayward shot directly off the carpet of a hospitality bar. Then at the PGA Championship, Matt Jones did the same, popping one from a bar and up over a white picket fence back onto the golf course.
Now Fabian Gomez is getting in on the fun, opting not to take relief from this elevated lie in a hospitality tent. Gomez blasted a tee shot on this 223-yard par-3 directly into the crowd and figured this was the easiest way to get back in play. Of all three, this was probably the most intriguing shot -- he’s so high above the hole, with grandstand seats to clear right in front of him. Gomez nearly holed it but then unfortunately missed the comeback putt for par.
