Phil Mickelson attempts wild recovery shot through a metal fence
Phil never disappoints when it comes to miracle recovery attempts from all parts of the golf course.

We’ve seen Phil Mickelson play shots from everywhere on and off the course. The man refuses to take a drop unless it’s absolutely necessary, which is how you end up hitting balls off the carpet of a beer tent and back into play.
Friday’s lie at the Farmers Insurance Open, however, was a new one for Phil. His ball landed up against a fence, which was considered a permanent obstruction, not a temporary immovable obstruction from which he could get relief. But part of his ball was still considered in play so he had the opportunity to at least put a swing on it.

So Phil decided to hack at it anyways. To recap, Mickelson:
- was standing on concrete
- set up on the wrong side of the fence off the course
- used the toe of the club to make contact
- followed-through against and slammed into a metal fence
- got back in play
There’s so much entertaining and wrong with that scenario. Unfortunately, that wild attempt did not salvage much, as Phil still walked off with a double-bogey 7 and dropped 34 spots down the leaderboard.
